Our Students offers insight into individual student performance in Star assessments, Accelerated Reader quizzes, myON reading, Freckle practice, and Lalilo practice. The students included are those who are enrolled in schools and classes in the current school year on your Renaissance site.
For Accelerated Reader, myON, Freckle, and Lalilo, and for Star Phonics diagnostic students assessed and Star CBM assessments completed, the data is based on the past 28 days. For each Star category (Reading, Math, and Early Literacy), SAEBRS/mySAEBRS, and Star CBM benchmark data, this dashboard displays data for each school for the most recent district screening window in which any of the students tested in their current school. (This means that different categories may be showing data from different district screening windows. Note that Star Student Growth Percentiles also use test data outside those screening windows.) For Star Phonics screener students assessed, data is based on the most recent Star Phonics testing window (beginning of year, middle of year, or end of year).
On this dashboard, you can sort or filter by students' metrics and/or student information fields. You can also create custom views.
Things to Note
Star Assessment Data Included
Star assessments completed, Star Percentile Rank scores, Star State Benchmark Level scores, and Star benchmark category data include students who have taken a test and gotten a benchmark score in a district screening window. Only tests taken in a district screening window are shown. For Star Reading, Star Math, and Star Early Literacy and SAEBRS/mySAEBRS, only assessments taken for schools that use the district screening windows are included. If students have taken more than one test in a district screening window, only the most recent test is included for benchmark metrics.
Student Growth Percentiles (SGPs) may include tests taken outside district screening windows; for this reason, you may see the total number of students is higher for Student Growth Percentiles than for other scores. In Renaissance Next for Leaders, Student Growth Percentile requires a Fall test score, and the first Fall test is used as the starting point; since Star reports may use other tests as the starting point for Student Growth Percentile, the scores that you see in those reports may differ from those shown in Renaissance Next for Leaders. Activity Data
Why do some students have a 0 for metrics about completed activities, while others have a dash?
To help you see the most relevant data for metrics that focus on work completed, Renaissance Next for Leaders distinguishes between students who have done work before and those who have not. This helps you focus on the students who are expected to complete activities versus students who may not actively be using the product. So, for example, a student who has taken a Star Reading test previously but hasn't in the current window will have a "0" for assessments completed, while a student who has never completed a Star Reading assessment for their current school will have a dash. Only students with a "0" will be included in categories such as "Has not been assessed." This applies to assessments completed, quizzes taken, and metrics for myON, Freckle, and Lalilo that measure the student's activity.
Viewing More Information
Move your mouse over the number to see more information about timeframes and the change in score.
Using the information on the increase or decrease in scores, you can monitor student progress, quickly assess outcomes for critical student populations (such as those who are receiving additional supports), and decide the best next steps to support your students and achieve strategic goals. For example, change indicators could help you see:
- which of your lowest-performing students improved since the last district screening window
- which students in literacy intervention made gains on the most recent assessment
- which students in a particular risk category saw further decline in outcomes
Based on this information, you may decide to select a subset of students for additional support. Using the filtering options described below, you can focus on students with specific characteristics or those with scores in a specific range and use the changes in scores to inform inquiry and decision-making for individual students, the building, and the district.
Sorting and Filtering
To sort the students listed on this page by any of the metrics for reading or math, select the icon next to the column heading. When you first select the icon, the students on the dashboard will be sorted from highest to lowest value (
). If you select it again, students will be sorted from lowest to highest value (
). Select the icon once more to stop sorting the dashboard by that metric; the icon will change back to the down and up arrows
.
You can also use the drop-down lists at the top of the page to filter the list of students by school and demographics, and views that have been shared with you or views that you have created. (If you select a school, you will also see a drop-down list for teachers and sections.)
In the Demographics drop-down list, you can choose more than one demographic by checking boxes in the drop-down list. Each item you select will be added above. (Note: You cannot filter by Free or Reduced Lunch status.)
To clear your selections, select the x to the right on each drop-down list, click the x for individual selected demographics, or select Clear All to the right of the drop-down lists.
Students' demographic information must be set in your Renaissance software to be available in Renaissance Next for Leaders. If your school uses CDI, set grade, gender, ethnicity, and characteristics in the source database. If your school does not use CDI, grade, gender, and ethnicity are set when you add or edit students, and characteristics are set separately in Renaissance software. Another way to filter the list is by score. For each score type shown, you'll see a bar chart with different color segments. For Star scores and Star CBM benchmark data, these represent each of the benchmark categories. For SGP, growth categories are used for the segments. For Star Phonics screener assessments, the segments represent students who have not been assessed in the latest testing window (red), those with 1 assessment (light green), and those with more than one assessment (dark green). For diagnostic assessments, the segments represent students with 1 assessment (yellow) in the past 28 days, those with 2-3 assessments (light green), and those with 4 or more assessments (dark green); students with no diagnostic assessments aren't represented in these segments since not all students will need diagnostic assessments.
For SAEBRS and mySAEBRS assessments, the Assessments Completed segments show how many students have not been assessed in the district screening window, how many have been assessed once, and how many have been assessed more than once. The Overall Score metrics show the number of students at high risk, some risk, or low risk based on norms and benchmarks.
For Accelerated Reader, the Quizzes Taken segments represent 1-2 quizzes taken (yellow), 3-6 quizzes taken (light green), and 7 or more quizzes taken (dark green). The Average Percent Correct segments represent less than 75% (red), 75%-84.9% (orange), 85%-94.9% (light green), and 95% or higher (dark green).
For myON, the Books Read segments represent 1-2 books read (yellow), 3-6 books read (light green), and 7 or more books read (dark green).
For Freckle sessions completed, the segments represent 1-2 sessions in the time period (red), 3-6 sessions (light green), and 7+ sessions (dark green). For accuracy (percent correct), the segments represent 50% or less correct (red), 50%-80% (yellow), or 80%-100% (green).
For Lalilo active students, the segments represent less than 20 exercises completed, 21-40, and more than 40. For minutes practiced, the segments represent less than 60 minutes, 60-120 minutes, and more than 120 minutes. For performance status, the segments represent On Track or Below Track.
For Star CBM Assessments Completed data, the segments represent students who have taken 1 assessment (yellow), 2-3 assessments (light green), or 4 or more assessments (dark green).
When you hover over a segment, you will see the number of students who scored in that category and the total number. When you select a portion of the bar, you filter the list to students whose scores are in that category. (Note that Star and SAEBRS scores and Star CBM benchmark data are limited to the district screening window that is being displayed and Star Phonics screener data is limited to the Star Phonics testing window, while Accelerated Reader, myON, Freckle, and Lalilo data, Star Phonics diagnostic data, and Star CBM assessments completed data are limited to the past 28 days). To clear a selection, select the Clear All button at the top of the page.
At times, you may notice differences between the number of students you see when you hover over a segment of the bar and the number of students who are listed on the page when you select a segment. This is because the list of students includes only students who are actively enrolled in your schools and classes now, while the numbers you see above the list include all students who were enrolled and tested at the time.
Adding a New View
Once you have selected schools and classes, demographics, and/or segments for some metrics, you can save the view that you have created so that you can use the same selections in the future. Select Add New View to the right of or under the drop-down lists.
Then, in the Add New View window, enter a name and description and choose whether to share the view with district administrators or school leaders. The sorting options and the metric filters you selected will be shown in the window. When you are done, select Submit.
The views that you have added and views that have been shared with you are available in the Views drop-down list at the top of the page.
Exporting Data
If you want to export the list you are viewing to a .csv file, select Export to the right of the drop-down lists; then, select Export in the window that opens. Be sure to protect sensitive student data; refer to your district's policies for using, storing, and sharing the data. Note that exports are limited to 25,000 students.
Opening Your Apps and Going to Reports
My Apps
On the left, you'll see a list of the Renaissance apps that you have active subscriptions for. To open one, select the app icon. If you select AR or Star, you'll see more links and apps so you can choose exactly where you'd like to go. The first example below shows the Apps area expanded; if it is collapsed using the < arrow, you'll see the icons as in the second example.
If you are using a tablet or a smaller browser window, select the app icon at the top of the page instead and then select the app. If you select AR or Star, a popup window will show you more links and apps so that you can select what you need.
My Data (Reports)
Select Reports on the left under My Data and choose the product whose reports you want to see; then, choose one of the options under that product.
